‘Daleham Dreaming’, Camden New Journal

This week, we were thrilled to see an article published in our local Camden New Journal and written by our local councillor Linda Chung, shedding light on our community project's journey and aspirations. The article delves into the roots of our dream, the challenges faced, and the remarkable progress made in making affordable housing a reality for our community.

The dream of providing good, warm homes accessible to all, rather than just the affluent, takes centre stage in this recently published article. Originating in 2016, the vision was triggered by the disheartening trend of public property loss to private developers. The loss of key-worker housing, exemplified by the demolition of 29 New End, fueled our disillusionment.

The current milestone is marked by a planning application for a thoughtfully designed, sustainable building comprising 14 flats of varying sizes, accommodating both single individuals and families located in Daleham Gardens in Belsize Park. Two flats are dedicated to council tenants, while the rest will be sold – half at a 50% discount on market value and the remaining at full price to subsidise the scheme. A perpetual covenant ensures the protection of affordable housing.

While facing objections, some factually incorrect, the focus remains on the transparent actions of the NW3 CLT trustees. The article emphasises the importance of scrutinising motives, especially in the face of personal attacks, and highlights the upcoming decision by Camden's planning committee.

We invite our members and the wider public to read the full article, celebrating this significant step toward realising our vision of accessible and affordable housing in Hampstead.
